Only the bittergourd made it.
All the leafy veg died, wilted in infancy.
The eggplant and cucumber are stunted.
But the bittergourd made it.
As with many other stay at home families during this period, I took to gardening and tried my hand at vegetables. Unfortunately the results are dismal. Fortunately supermarket shelves are now well-stocked. But I’ll keep trying 🙂
Mom is well. She doesn’t recognise vegetables anymore but can feed herself. For that we’re thankful.
Glad you hear, that your mom hadn’t deteriorated to the point that she needed around-the-clock, 24-hour a day care yet…

Yes it could be worse.

I too tried gardening. A woodchuck family has enjoyed my efforts. Next year I will put up a taller fence. The one I have was climbed easily.
My LOWD is doing ok. She really does not like vegetables.

I feel for you. We, too, are dismal gardeners. That something called a “bittergourd” is the only thing that made it seems very appropriate for 2020. 😛

You’re brave to try vegetable gardening at all, let alone with all going on in your life and the world. I grew a single cherry tomato plant…and only because it seeded itself. I noticed it whilst weeding the zinnias I planted in last year’s raised beds (where we made a valiant, but failed, effort at growing our own veggies). Anyway, I took pity on the little tomato plant and decided to give it a chance by offering it water and weeding around it all summer. I’m enjoying just a handful of delicious cherry tomatoes every day now, for which I am glad, as I’m the only one in our family of two who eats tomatoes.
You’re in my thoughts and prayers right now as you care for your mom. I know that thankful feeling you are experiencing knowing your mom can still feed herself. It’s a big deal. Take care, and thanks for sharing today’s post. It made me feel like I am in good company in the veggie growing department.

Thank you for your kind comment. I’m more of a lazy gardener, meaning do the minimal and hope for the best type. Enjoy your tomatoes!

Good job on the bittergourd! I am glad your mother is stable. Be strong and continue with your urban planting. Nothing beats, plucking your own veggies from your doorstep!
